THE SOUTHTYROLEAN MOUNTAIN- AND CAVE RESCUE
is a voluntary subsidiary organization of the National Mountain and Cave Organization CNSAS.
As such it is a special branch of the Italian Alpine Club (Club Alpino Italiano CAI), which operates in the entire province of Bolzano.
It consists of 700 voluntary mountain rescuers and mountain guides who speak German, Italian and Ladin as their mother tongue. These are split among 21 mountain rescue sections and one cave rescue section.
Similar to the Alpine Rescue Service BRD of the Alpine Club South Tyrol AVS he main scope of activities of the Southtyrolean mountain and cave rescue consists of the prevention of mountain accidents as well as the rescuing of accident victims, people in danger and missing people.
It also works closely with the Civil Protection Agency and the regional 118 emergency call centre.
